You can also put in 6.5" or 5.25" midbass woofers as part of a component set but you'll need to rig up some wooden plates to adapt to the hole and to space the speaker away from the door...it's really not very difficult... Hell, I did it....you should be able to!!

Use 6x8's...they are the actualy size of the stock speakers, and will fit more correctly. I had no issues whatsoever when I switched mine.

Memphis makes a nice 5 1/4 component set that comes with a mounting bracket that fits it all in the 6x8 hole.
I bought a red car, because everyone knows red is the fastest.

I have heard some very excellent 5x7 and 6x8 by boston, JL, Clarion....etc.. and I wouldnt even begin to say 'crappy' That being said...I wouldnt go back to a 2-way or 3-way speaker again..but I've just progressively moved on with my system.... I rocked my alpine 5x7's for 2 years..

The set up I was going for is 6.5" component JL Audio for the front and 6/8 kenwood for the rear I just haven't decided yet were im puting the tweeters.

The JBL C608GTi's that I had were sensational. The tweeter monuted right in the middle of the woofer so another location wasn't a problem. They sounded better than a lot of the more expensive sets of components I've listened to, but keep in mind car audio is more personal preference than anything. I've also heard that the Infinity Kappa Perfect Series are awesome speakers. If I didn't find the JBL's I was gonna go for JL Audio but when I got quoted $2000 for 6.5" components I would have went for the Infintys instead!

Civic's sucks!

Cost... and the fact you can't really (in many cases when on a budget) tell the difference. My Planet Audio 5x7's scream for what they're worth...

I like my Boston FX8's.
They're 5x9's and sound pretty sharp for a pair of speakers that cost under 300bux a pair. |
