Adapter Bezel, Wiring Adapter
#1
Hey Folks, just a quick couple of questions:

my new head unit is in the mail... I'm going to need an adapter kit (bezel, and wiring) to do the install. Anyone know where I can stop in and pick one up in the T.O. area?
Cheap is nice, quality is better...

And then I got to thinking... it might be a good idea to do an alarm install as well, but that's getting a bit more serious than I'm used to handling myself. So are there any reputable shops in T.O. that could do the headunit install with an alarm install, do extreme quality work, but won't kill me financially?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

thanks guys!

I got all the parts at future shop for install. They had good prices but I wouldn't let them do the install. It took me about 2 hours to put the deck in and about 15 minutes to find a place to hide the computer module.

Futureshop won't touch anything I own... it's personal plicy...

I didn't see the adapter kits on their website, so I wasn't sure. Can I just walk in to any Futureshop and pick it up? I have to stop by crappy tire to top up my coolant, and there's a futureshop right beside it.

and where did you hide the computer module?

They sell the parts at the car audio install area. Just walk in tell them the deck and car model.

As for the computer module there is a flat area under the wheel on the back of the plastic trim panel. It involves moving some wires but not to hard. Or you get enough cable to put it under a seat or even the trunk I would think

Try Best buy. Futureshop will tell you they cant sell you the parts, unless you install something, which is complete bull, cus I've bought just parts there before, guess it depends on how new the employee is. The radio trim is somewhere arround $25-30, dont buy the one in the car-audio section inside the store, get the one in the back where the installation bay is, cus they are 2 different parts. The wiring harness should be arround $15, dont forget, you need the volkswagen antenna adapter too, the one without the extra wire dangling off it, should be arround $15 bux as well. Hope this helps.

p.s. My friend Jeff, works for Phantom Car audio, likes to install alarms on his "off time" from work, for like a case of beer or something...

I got my bezel and antenna adapter at Bay Bloor Radio, and the wiring harness at Crappy Tire.

I think all of that came out to maybe $45?? Don't remember exactly.

The place that dean always pimps did a good install on one of my ex girlfriends alarms...

She bought it on the internet (better price on etronics.com) then we went there to get it installed.

It was only 100 bucks too. For that price, my time fooling around with it wasnt even worth while.

There's this place on Kennedy & Lawrence just across the road from the new Future Shop location. Can't for the life of me remember what the name is. In any case, they have all the highest quality mounting kits. The one Ben and I put in my g/f's intrepid looks completely stock. I'll try to remember their name... they definately seem to know their stuff. Might be worth checking out.

In my impatience, I picked up the adapter kit and stuff at Futureshop... not particularily cheap, but the install should take 10 minutes since it's just the head unit.

I'm definitely going to check out some places to get an alarm installed... Anyone see Dean around? He pimped first, and gets first consideration... but I don't see him around.

did you guys scare him away? <_<

thanks for the help guys.. if all goes well, I'll have pics up next week of all the weekend's work.
