Young draft picks with no leadership gets you nowhere.

Look at the recent Stanley Cup winners; Wings, Avs, Stars; and even the latest winners -- leadership.

Toronto needs some youth, yes. But it needs some decent scouting even more. Detroit never gets a first draft pick; it's been on top too long.

Look who we have -- Datsyuk, Zetterberg.... Not first rounders. Just good scouting. And neither Lidstrom nor Chelios are spring chickens -- but they are leaders.

Leafs need to spend more money...................on management, to get people who know how to build a team.
They don't have any real draft picks, thanks to the previous GM.
I read somewhere that Ferguson, to his credit, wanted to "blow it up" to get the good picks, but he wasn't allowed to.
The Leafs are, unfortunately a money maker, even if the team sucks, the corporation makes a profit, and since the salary cap has been in place, it's been even easier.

Well look at your own team for a minute. When did they turn their horribleness around to be one of the greatest teams of the past 20 years? They drafted Steve Yzerman (4th overall). Drafted, they didn't acquire veteran leadership they drafted. You have to build the foundation first before you start the rest.

Toronto doesn't have that bad of scouting, look where Strallman was, 210th overall or something like that, same with Kaberle. Its not that they have bad scouting, its that they never have any picks to use their scouting with. They always trade them away for "veteran leadership". Owen Nolan anyone?

I am not looking for a short term patch up job that always happens in Toronto, they should look at the future like the wings did way back in 1983. Of course, you wouldn't want that because Toronto would be winning cups left and right.
