 Kinda surprised nobody caught on to his idea... I had the same setup in my Ranger, just wanted to add a sub and after three months I went for a complete setup and amps all around, same setup in the car now (transplanted). So like said above, you'll only regret it in the long run, the stock speakers on a base setup won't let you enjoy your upgrade imo.

OOOHHHHHHHHHHH that makes everything more clear now. You just want to add a sub to your stock setup.

As far as hooking an amp up tp the stock 2000-2004 headunits, It's a little more difficult. A power wire is run from the battery and I believe you need to get a signal from the rear speakers for the amp.

The problem with doing this (or at least what I found when I added a sub to the stock system) is that the sub overpowers the stock speakers so all you get is bass.

As soon as I read his first post, I thought he wanted to run subs, then everyone started harping at him about how the stock speakers are crap.
I always assume that everyone wants to run the biggest sub they can unless they state otherwise. :D

I know you've said you like the stock look of the deck but as already stated, if you like to listen to quality music then you will only be disapointed. Also, replacing the stock speakers but still running the stock deck won't make more than very marginal differences because of the wattage that the stock deck puts out, maybe 10-15 watts at most.

As for the post regarding using the stock deck and speakers with 2 subs on amp in the back and hitting 130db, I call :icon_bs: all over that especially the clear part of it. At a volume to hit 130db the stock speakers would flapping like a flag in the wind equalling nothing but distortion and with running the stock speakers off the stock deck all you would hear would be your subs hence why you only have it sitting at a volume level of 1 or 2 at all times.

Don't be too sure about that, Unless you have loads of cash dumped into the stereo and runnung 1000 watt amps. I did have an old Escort with 14 speakers (that would hit well over 150s all day...... CLEAR not just bass.....

First thing is set up... My Neon had no distortion at 130 db (I like to hear music clearly, THANK YOU) and the reason WHY I have the volume from 1 to 2 is because I have 2 kids under 3 that does go into the car...I'm not a young punk kid that drives around with the music blaring so people down the street can hear......

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it, but you can get amps with speaker level inputs for just such a project.

BTW.. you'd be surprised at what the stock speakers can accomplish.. with just a new headunit pushing 50W max to the stockers, I would have people asking me what size subs i was running.

Granted, you couldn't go too loud without the speakers distorting, but they did put up with a lot more than i expected them to.

Well, if you say it was clear, I can't argue with you on that because I wasn't there but I personally would never run a setup like that, with no real sub level controls etc. By the way, I don't recall saying you were a punk kid with your music blaring so all could hear so don't go getting your panties in too much of a bunch. What I did say I was basing on personal experience of when I was a young stupid kid and we set up a friends car using a stock deck and it ended up sounding like crap no matter what we did with it until we put an aftermarket deck in, and it sounded fine.

How can some people say that factory deck and speakers sound crappy but with an aftermarket deck and factory speaker sound better. Wouldn't that be the same as a facory deck and the factory speaker running off an amp.....Tell me what is the difference......Well what ever.......the point is that it can be done to who ever wants to do it, if you don't like it buy aftermarket.....No hard feeling to anyone that disagrees with it......

Sounds like a cat fight.

I have the stock s***box in my truck. It sucks as clear as a train whistle at 200 yards.

This is just a crazy cheap ass bastard idea. Get off the cart that you like the "look" of the stock deck and admit you don't have the coin right now to put in an aftermarket head unit. I've seen some that are breathless.

The stock unit is far from breathless.

Save your $$$ and replace that crap that Ford puts in. Or the jabs and jokes will keep on coming.

And why did you guys need me for this? It's too easy. You guys did just fine shooting him down. :D

So, were you running your factory speaker off an amp or just off your factory deck? Even in that case, imo and from past experience, you wouldn't get as clean of sound as you could using an aftermarket deck. This is mainly in part due to the transfer of the sound using rca compared to regular speaker wire and jimmy rigging it.

I also tend to do a lot of fine tuning with my eq on my deck. My stock deck had bass and treble. My Pioneer has low, mid, high as well as I can set my hz levels for both my front and rear speakers as well as my sub. I can adjust my crossover on my deck to match or reconfigure my crossover on my amp.

I would just make sure that you don't run too much power to your stock speakers from an amp as they are generally not rated for much power until you get into the higher end stock stereo equipment such as infinity and bose etc.

Same as you stated kc, no hard feelings towards anyone, just a healthy debate.

He said in his initial post he has the mp3 deck. There is more than one version of this deck so to be sure, if it is infact the one made by blaupunkt, then yes you can easily hook an amp up to the stock deck. You will need the blaupunk adaptor to enable RCA outs from the deck... I happened to have one that I made for my VW deck a few yrs back and it works just fine. The deck itself has a very good EQ since this deck was available overseas too, people over in europe have enabled the hidden menu to change the EQ settings to compensate the levels for when you hook up a system or in your case a sub and amp to it. It should be just fine, I have the same deck that your talking about too. You do NOT need an Line level a.k.a. RCA converter to use this deck with an amp.

Its not a matter of having the money for a system I have the money just really dont like the fact of taking out my stock unit throwing in a installation kit and a deck and ruining the design and lines of the dash.I had a complete system in my sunfire and with the focus I want it to remain stock looking on the interior.

If you get the proper mounting bracket for the focus, it looks pretty good. Also gives you a spot to store a remote, or a pack of gum or smokes or something as well. Most mounting plates now are made to match the interior design so that it doesn't look like a monkey f***ing a football when an aftermarket deck is installed.
