Hi There,

I'm thinking about buying a 2000 focus se wagon. it's 5 speed and has 80,000km on it, looks to be in great shape.

What I want to know is your overall impressions of the vehicle. I want the good, the bad, and even the ugly.

Give me your highlights, and your pet peeves.

Thanks!

Does it have the Zetec?
decent car. Fun to drive and a blast to mod.

The Focus is a great car for cornering and fuel economy. They also do 120+ down the highway without fuss or strain.

Easy to mod as mentioned above, and fun to drive - absolutely!

They also look super-sharp with 17" wheels.
They are good cars, I would think that after 80,000km's all the problems with the 2000 model year were worked out for you.

I would really suggest a zetec over an spi, NOS2Go may disagree :P

If it is a zetec and since it has 80k on it, check out the valve cover gasket leak. Its about due for that, and if it is leaking have them change it...

Also how much is this car?

Yes, a few more HP, more modern engine etc. The other engine is called the SPI and was used in the Escort and whatnot. Both are 2.0L, fuel economy is about the same or so close that whatever penalty there is in having the ZETEC is it is more than made up by the value of the extra HP. Both run on regular gas. One of the guys just rolled over 200,000km on his 2002 ZETEC Focus.
First off, Welcome to FocusCanada.net! :)

Next, the wagon is a very nice model, reasonably sporty. I would definitely get the Zetec engine as opposed to a SPI, especially with the added weight the wagon has.
Yes! ZTEC!

and they are good sturdy engines.

Opt for the extended warrenty though.

The gasket, DPFE sensor and master cylender a due to go.
I have a 2000 and like harkore said that car should have all its problems worked out. 00-01 models had a few recalls & technical service bulletin's (TSB) against them. I had major issues since i bought the car with hesitation, once i got the fuel pump recall done, the car drove like new.

Theres a website 2001ZTS has that you can check your cars VIN# to make sure its up to date on the recalls & TSB's.

.......and people think I'm such a bad guy
id say go for it.... another troublespot is the valvecover gasket as well as the thermostat housing. check for leaks before you buy it.
Nope, I wouldn't disagree as I completely agree the Zetec is much better as a modder's engine. I was a Focus newb till after I bought the car and realized it had the SOHC engine.

I won't trade mine in now, but yes, the Zetec DOHC is much better for power-adders.
i have to agree with everyone, this car is amazing, i'm 17 and this car is still good on my wallet, and is a blast to drive, and i wouldn't trade this car in for everything. My friend also has a wagon, and man, you can make that car look pimp, so go for it, you won't regret it!
go for it and jion this wonderful family

I would go for the Ztec I have had 2 and they were fun cars :)
Knock them down on the price.
When I traded in my Focus, I received $5500.00 plus taxes.
It was a ZX3 with power windows, locks and a/c. It was manual. I had a Viper alarm on it and it still had extended warranty until 100 000Km or 5 years.

I would try to reduce the price to around $7200-7500 plus taxes. Trust me they are still making pretty good money.

Vito :)

Disfunctional family
WOW!

You guys have a lot to say about these things.

I'm just getting out of an 82 rabbit, that I had some fun modding, but i'm looking for something i can fit the wakeboards in and make it to the lake with enough money in the wallet for gas in the boat.

How the fuel mileage on the zetec? what do you spend on gas in a week/month?
